HAA PROJECT UPDATE - JUNE 2021

Following the release of our first model, the 1:76 scale PGA hopper wagon, we had always planned to return to a two-axle design in the future and the HAA, a favourite of ours and many modellers, was a great choice of wagon to model.

A lot of time and effort has been spent researching the HAA family of wagons in order to not only best replicate the features and finer details of the prototype but also carry forward some of the features achieved on our PGA wagon whilst continuing to evolve.

Numerous trips to Knottingley depot were made to ensure we captured the distinctive wagon’s shape and features and as you will discover as you take a look at the photos in this update, the results are very pleasing indeed.

The full-depth hopper, zinc alloy chassis, fully detailed underframe with separately fitted parts were features found on the PGA and would be standard on our HAA.

As with our PGA and BBA wagons we wanted to include a wealth of detail and features on our HAA and family of variants, a few of which are listed below;

Both types of hopper doors modelled, cross and straight beam dependent on prototype.

Separately fitted hopper edge strengthening bar on the re-bodied HAA.

Rivet detail on inner and outer body surfaces.

HFA fitted with the aerodynamic canopy.

Solid ring and brake disc wheels, correctly represented depending on prototype.

Highly detailed and realistically sculpted hood canopy on the CDA.

Zinc alloy chassis for correct running weight.

Prototypical full-depth hopper with doors and internal support fins represented.

Sprung buffers with prototypical variations in design.

As with all of our models it provides easy conversion to P4/EM, with 26mm axles used as standard.

Removable NEM coupling pockets with alternative instanter couplings provided.

There are a few parts that are missing on some samples, Brake blocks, pipes and couplings, but these parts will be fitted on the final production models. There are also a few parts that have been fitted with the incorrect colour, this will also be addressed along with improvements to the fitting of parts, decoration and enhancements to the printing.

Overall, we are very impressed with the samples and after a few modifications, which are currently underway, the project will move forward to the production stage of the process.
