CAVALEX MODELS’ FEBRUARY 2021 UPDATE

Welcome to the first Cavalex Models project’s update of 2021.

BBA PROJECT

Following the release of our well-received 1:76 scale BBA and BLA wagons, we are now finalising the second production run which is planned to arrive in the U.K. Q3 2021. These wagons have proved very popular with modellers.

The second run will include the following liveries:

Running numbers and decoration are to be confirmed.

More details on how to order will be provided next month.

As part of the BBA project development, we are planning to release additional versions of these wagons in the future.

During the design stage of the process, it was decided to approach the design of the BBA in such a way to utilise the mainframe as a common chassis allowing different deck versions to be produced and subsequently offering modellers a variety of wagons. The BLA is the first model of the BBA family which has an alternative deck to the as built BBA.

Planned releases for 2022 include the following BBA conversions:

KFA Project

Final production samples have been received and are currently being approved ahead of the factory reopening following The Chinese New Year Holiday.

Once the factory receives sign-off the wagons will enter final assembly and they will be shipped from China shortly afterwards, hopefully during March or early April depending upon shipping costs and transit times.

TEA project

We wanted to share some photos showing the first completed tests for our weathered TEA/KBA wagons.

These are just samples to test the weathering technique that the factory will apply. The final models will be decorated correctly to match the prototype wagons as well as having differing chip and wear patterns to give a level of individuality to an assembled rake.

We have been actively working with the factory to come up with a method/process which will hopefully allow us to achieve an authentic weathered finish as per the prototype on our models.

We are now waiting for painted samples of the Total version and weathered versions which the factory will be producing after the Chinese New Year Holiday. Once these are approved production will commence.

Our TEA and KBA wagons can still be pre-ordered from our website.

PHA/JGA Project

Cavalex Models are excited to announce that we will be contacting customers and issuing invoices within the next week to 10 days, with the aim of starting the tooling stage of the process at the end of March/early April for our 4mm PHA/JGA wagon.

Thank you to everyone that has supported this project so far. We are very excited about this project moving to the tooling stage of the process.

Back in 2018 we asked for suggestions for future projects following the commencement of production of our PGA wagon and the BBA and PHA/JGA were both high on the list. The number of pre-orders received for our PHA/JGA certainly confirms the feedback received and proves that this will be a popular wagon for modellers.

HAA Project

Following the announcement in September 2020 of our newly tooled HAA family of hopper wagons in 4mm scale in collaboration with KMS Railtech and Trains4U, earlier this month we received HAA and CDA EP samples from the factory for review.

There are a final few tweaks to be made, however we are really happy with how they are shaping up and feel that the model definitely captures the look of the HAA.

We are aware that some parts have been incorrectly fitted to the wrong version, such as the CDA buffers being fitted to a HAA sample. This along with other observations will be added to the list for attention ahead of the painted samples.

At this stage the factory has been testing the moulds, and checking parts and assembly.

A comprehensive review of the samples will be made to provide our feedback to the factory ahead of the painted samples.
